Overview

Our programme provides students with intensive professional and practical experience and a hands-on approach to the daily operation of a professional kitchen. The programme focuses on developing culinary skills, problem solving, and challenging students to critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of culinary operations and identify entrepreneurial approaches to operations.

Duration

Applicants can pursue the Associate Degree in Culinary Arts:

Full Time: Two (2) Years or Part Time: Three (3) Years

Each year is divided into three Semesters.

Career Opportunities

With so many possibilities, a student with a Culinary Arts degree can be employed in many establishments including restaurants, hotels, casinos and many more places. There are even more options as an entrepreneur with high class culinary skills. Career options include:

  • Personal Chef

  • Dietary Manager

  • Food & Beverage Management

Internship

One of the best parts of getting your degree from THTI is the ability to fulfil your internship at any Sandals Resort anywhere in the Caribbean or at the Business and Hotel Management School in Luzern, Switzerland.

 

Students, also have the opportunity to fulfill their internship at several local hotels including Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort, Blue Waters Inn, Crown Point Beach Hotel and several others.

 

Students will be placed in positions which best match their interests and field of study after they have completed the course work.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for our degree programme, ONE of the four following criteria must be met:

 

1.  Caribbean Examinations Council CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) at General or Technical Proficiency:

  • Five (5) subjects (English and Mathematics are compulsory) at Grades I, II and Ill

OR

  • Four (4) subjects (English and Mathematics are compulsory)) at Grades I, II and Ill, and at least one (1) year’s work experience in the Hospitality Industry.

 

2. General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCE) Ordinary Level:

  • Five (5) subjects (English and Mathematics are compulsory) at Grades A, B, and C

OR

  • Four (4) subjects (English and Mathematics are compulsory) at Grades A, B, and C, and at least one (1) year’s work experience in the Hospitality Industry.

 

3. Diploma or equivalent qualification providing evidence of successful completion of secondary level courses for international students.

4. Successful completion of the THTI Pre-Qualifying Programme

Scholarships

The Associate Degree, Culinary Arts Programme is 100% GATE funded if eligibility requirements are met. Students with the intention of utilizing GATE funding must signify this upon admission.

While GATE covers 100% of Trinidad and Tobago citizens’ tuition, students are still responsible for annual student administrative fees.

Scholarships are also available for those pursuing full time studies
